Abstract
The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, Public Law 91-596, requires "that the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare shall publish within six months of enactment of this Act and thereafter as needed, but at least annually, a list of all known toxic substances by generic family or other useful grouping, and the concentrations at which such toxicity is known to occur." The appended list fulfills the requirement of the Section, 20(a)(6) of the Act, and in addition supplies reference to the scientific literature on the sources of the toxicity data. Thus, the "List" format consists of three sections, the chemical name of the toxic substance in capital letters, arranged alphabetically, its toxic dose and effects for man and/or animal, and the literature references.
