Recovery of Copper and Steel from Scrap Metal.
U S Pat 3 776 718 1973 Dec; :
Scrap containing fe and cu is treated with an aqueous solution of alkali metal sulfates or silicates prior to recovery of cu by preferential melting in an inert molten medium, i.e., Bacl2, CaCl2, silicate slags, or commercial heat-treating salts. The chemical pretreatment reduces the alloying tendency of cu by forming a barrier layer on iron and thus substantially increases the recovery of cu.
