The process of recovering metallic cu by leaching with cupric ammonium carbonate solutions was improved by using finely divided s to precipitate the dissolved cu as copper sulfides and to regenerate simultaneously the leach solution. The leach solution contained 10- 60 g cu2+, 1.3-4 G nh3/g cu, and 1.1-2.9 G nh3/g co2. The leaching and precipitation were carried out in a nonoxidizing atmosphere.
