Preparation of Tio2 and Artificial Rutile from Sodium Titanate.
U S Pat 3 976 761 1976 Aug; :
Pigment-grade tio2 was prepared by calcining a pelletized slurry of sodium titanate and a greater than stoichiometric amount of a dilute mineral acid, such as hcl or h2so4, at 600 deg-900 deg c for at least 2 h. Artificial rutile was produced at temperatures >/= 900 deg c. After quenching the calcined pellets in water, soluble sulfates or chlorides were dissolved by agitation and the solid product was recovered by filtration and dried.
