Method for Removing Soluble Selenium from Acidic Waste Water.

Soluble selenium is removed from zinc smelting acidic waste water by treating the effluent with powdered zinc at 25 deg-85 deg c for a time sufficient to reduce a substantial portion of the soluble selenium to insoluble metallic selenium, which is recovered by filtration or decantation.
