Method and Apparatus for Separating Neon from a Mixture of Gases.

Air containing Ne and he is passed through a cold trap maintained at 77 k by liquid n2 whereby h2o and co2 are removed. The gas mixture is then passed through a bed of activated charcoal maintained at 77 k whereby all constituents except Ne and he are removed. The resulting ne-he mixture is then passed through a second bed of activated charcoal maintained at 30 k by liquid he whereby Ne is adsorbed. The adsorbed Ne is subsequently evolved by raising the temperature of the second bed to 77 k in liquid n2 while maintaining a vacuum of 10-2 torr.
