Abstract
This report is presented in the form of a guidebook to be used on a field trip to document the petrology and style of mildly alkaline magmatism in a continental arc tectonic setting by visiting several calderas. The guidebook contains a road log with detailed descriptions of stops at caldera structures and other examples of ancient volcanic activity in the trans-pecos region and nearby Mexico, and includes articles on current research concerning the igneous geology of the area covering such topics as field relations of pyroclastic rocks, rheology of peralkaline ash-flow tuffs and lava flows, magma mixing within intrusions, and the petrogenesis of silica-undersaturated and silica-oversaturated magmas.
