Abstract
While Alaska is known for its snow, ice, cold, and polar bears, few realize that this state contains a number of notable gemstone deposits. The first nephrite jade discovered in place in north America was found in 1886 at Jade Mountain in Alaska. The Jade Mountain, Dalh Creek, and Promise Creek deposits are major ones in a jade-producing area along the Kubuk River inside the Arctic Circle.
