Of all of the minerals in the earth's crust, aluminosilicate feldspar is the most common. Feldspar is a handy industrial mineral used in making glass, plumbing fixtures, tile, and pottery. But it's also a gemstone--almost $1.5 million of which was mined last year in the United States.
