Reclamation Research and Demonstration Areas: Annotated Listing Through July 31, 1987.
For Reference Only At Bureau Libraries :45 pages
A great number of reclamation research studies and demonstration areas have been established on lands disturbed by mining in the last 50 years. In addition to their original importance, the value of these areas may increase long after the initial project has been terminated. A computer-based register of reclamation research and demonstration plots on lands surface mined for coal is being developed to collect and preserve information on these areas. This register is a cooperative project of the U.S. Bureau of Mines and office of surface mining reclamation and enforcement, of southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and of the American Society for Surface Mining and Reclamation. The register emphasizes lands mined for coal but includes lands mined for a variety of other resources. This report chiefly provides an annotated listing of 305 areas distributed among 30 states.
