Paper in Computer Appl in the Min Ind : Proceeds 2nd Canadian Conf Cim 2:563-571
An ongoing requirement of the U.S. Bureau of Mines Western Field Operations Center is to evaluate mineral deposits in the western United States. These studies include detailed cost estimates on operating mines, past producers, and known mineral deposits. In addition, evaluation of undiscovered resources as part of the Bureau's potential supply analysis studies also requires cost- estimating expertise. Each study has unique requirements in preparing a cost estimate. Application of computer software, particularly spreadsheet programs, has greatly enhanced the ability of Bureau engineers to perform a variety of evaluation scenarios.
