Coal's Increasing Role in the Fossil Fuel Industry.

The United States has about 20 percent of the world's coal resources, enough to last several centuries even at an expanded rate of consumption. Projected expansion of coal consumption for energy and fuels production will require the solution of several major problems, including those related to mining methods, mine health and safety, economics, and coal process technology.
