Abstract
The paper calls attention to the alternatives that exist for controlling automobile emissions and provides information from which to better understand the impact that each of the several control options may have on fuel economy and on the energy resource. The paper deals specifically and exclusively with the costs of emission controls in terms of the energy requirement; dollar costs are not examined.
