Abstract
During 1987 and 1988, the Eighty Four Complex Mine of Bethenergy Mines, Inc., used the open entry longwall recovery method to recover one partial and three complete longwall faces. Various cement-concrete supports were utilized to support the open recovery entry until the approaching longwall face cut into this entry. This recovery method and the supports used were studied by the mine personnel and the U.S. Bureau of Mines. This paper discusses the findings, results and conclusions of that study.
