Subsection 11 1 in SME Mining Engineering Handbook 1:11-2to11-3
This article covers the fundamental principles of fragmentation in rocks. Energy must by supplied by direct or indirect means to fragment that rock. The amount is dependent upon the properties of the rock and the type of loading system. The strength of rock is influenced by the environmental conditions imposed on the rock, such as confining pressure, pore fluid pressure, temperature, and rate of load application.
