This article reviews the economic aspects, quarrying methods, and environmental implications of the limestone industry in south Dade County, Florida. Limestone, the most significant mineral commodity in the area, is found at or near land surface throughout the entire area, and is used as base material for roads and airport runways, as construction aggregate, and in the manufacture of cement.
