Abstract
Results of a three-dimensional axisymmetric finite element investigation of the effect of confining pressure on the stress distribution within an elastic cylindrical specimen loaded axially between rough end-plates of the same diameter as the specimen are presented. A constant displacement was applied to the end-plates to approximate the loading conditions which exist when a specimen is loaded axially in the laboratory.
