Abstract
Urban refuse can be converted to oil by the action of carbon monoxide and water at elevated temperatures and pressures. The yield is 85 to 100 gallons of oil per ton of dry refuse. The oil is low in sulfur and its heating value is high. It could be used as a low-sulfur powerplant feed.
