Plugging abandoned gas and oil wells.
Min Congr J 1972 Dec; 58(12):37-42
The U.S. Bureau of Mines is investigating the plugging of low- productivity wells and the reopening and replugging of abandoned wells as a means of solving various problems these wells pose to coal mining operations. This has resulted in an effort to develop and demonstrate the safety and feasibility of an improved mandatory safety standard to regulate the maintenance or elimination of coal pillars around oil and gas wells.
