An evaluation of the fuel factor through direct measurement of photochemical reactivity of emissions.

Findings in research at the Bureau of Mines Bartlesville Petroleum Research Center show that photochemical reactivities of vehicular emissions are reliably measured in laboratory experiments in which smog manifestations are observed directly. The concept was applied to determine differences in characteristics of emissions from 20 passenger vehicles, each tested using 10 different fuels. Significant fuel differences were found and are discussed in the paper.
