High Temperature Laser-induced Reactions Between Sulfur and Hydrocarbons.

High-temperature, laser-induced chemical reactions between solid sulfur and hydrocarbon gases (ethane, ethylene, allene, propylene, and n-butane) are reported. The results suggest that a carbon atom insertion reaction is involved in the formation of the major product, cs2. A possible mechanism for the reaction is proposed.
