Oil and gas wells--potential polluters of the environment?
J - Water Pollut Control Fed 1971 Dec; 43(12):2383-2393
Some of the chemicals that are used in the drilling, completion, and production in oil and gas well operations are noxious or poisonous. Poor drilling, completion, and abandonment practices can provide avenues for pollution. Results indicate that additional research is needed to determine what reactions occur in a salaquifer used for disposal, what valuable materials in petroleum-associated wastes can be recycled or recovered, and how petroleum-associated wastes can be permanently disposed.
