Abstract
The Bureau's Twin Cities Metallurgy Research Center operated its size "0" hot blast cupola to study the possibility of producing gray iron with scrap and prereduced pellets. Specification grade iron was produced using a charge of 50-percent prereduced pellets or with a 100-percent prereduced pellet charge. A 9-percent increase in coke rate was experienced under the latter conditions.
