Improved Sensors and Fire Control Systems for Mining Equipment.
NTIS: PB/232-405 Available for Reference At Bureau Libraries :252 pages
This report (Contract No. H0122053) concludes that trucks of capacity in excess of 50 tons represent the greatest potential for fire and that efforts to provide fire protection system against b class (flaming liquid) and c class (electrical) fires in trucks will have maximum impact in operator safety and equipment protection. It is of utmost importance to detect and extinguish b and c class fires in equipment before they can evolve into major conflagrations involving the entire unit of equipment and endangering the operator. The system would be semiautomatic and provide for the immediate detection of a fire and instant warning to the driver that a fire exists, allowing him to take corrective action.
