NTIS: PB 193 934 Available for Reference At Bureau Libraries :288 pages
In this study the problems of underground coal mining in the United States were examined, and recommendations were developed for a 5- year integrated research and development program to resolve the problems by improved technology. The specific objectives of the study were (1) to identify the existing inadequacies that adversely affect the health, safety, external environment and productivity of underground coal mining; (2) to identify opportunities for technological advances to correct these inadequacies; and (3) to develop an intergrated research and development program designed to accomplish the advances identified. Many clearly long-range projects are recommended.
