Abstract
This paper discusses the phenomenon of agglomeration encountered in a vertical duct. The dust, mostly aluminum, is dispersed and mixed in the top meter of the duct using an air jet technique developed at the Bureau of Mines. The agglomeration of falling dust was monitored using light transmission measurements at different heights. The paper discusses the equipment used and the optical experiments in controlled high dust loadings.
