Coal division views. The AIME and health & safety--a visible commitment is needed.
Min Eng 1979 Nov; 31(11):1
Suggestions are made that the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers should encourage health and safety in mining by several means. These should include specific awards and honors to recognize health and safety accomplishments. Award examples by others are cited, such as Virginia Polytechnic Institute's new coal mine health and safety awards and the Mine Safety Appliance Company's scholarship program. It is also suggested that awards and honors should be bestowed for health and safety accomplishments throughout the minerals industry, rather than just in coal mining.
