Resource recovery from automobile shredder residues.

As part of its program to conserve domestic natural resources, the Bureau of Mines is conducting research to develop methods for recovering resources from automobile shredder residues. Results of research on methods for the recovery and separation of metals, recovery of glass, recovery of individual plastics, and recovery of a fuel fraction from shredded residues are reported. The techniques used to recover bulk nonferrous metal concentrate is advanced to the point where it appears to be ready for commercial application, and a demonstration-scale plant is under construction.
