Abstract
Instrumentation used to perform acoustic nondestructive tests for rock mechanics research and applications in mining is described. Included in the types of determinations performed by these instruments are: elastic wave velocities, dynamic elastic moduli, anisotrophy, homogeneity, environmental effects, anelastic properties, crack or flaw detection, structural quality assessment, acoustic emission, acousto-fabric properties, acoustic index properties for rock classification, porosity, depth to bedrock, dip of strata, and lithologic characteristics in rock.
