Abstract
The Bureau of Mines investigated the use of dilute polymer in brine solutions to increase the efficiency of air in gas flooding model oil reservoirs. Slugs (0.23 Pore volume) of 500 ppm polyacrylamide were injected into a model, consisting of a high- and a low- permeability core, that had been previously gas flooded in residual oil. Gas flooding was then resumed. Of the total gas volume injected, the percentage entering the high-permeability zone was greatly reduced after polymer injection but remained unchanged when slugs of water without polymer were used.
