A number of investigations, from laboratory to pilot plant scale, have indicated that cryogenic processing could have numerous applications in both ferrous and nonferrous scrap handling if the processing could be made economical. In general, the products produced by cryogenic processing are cleaner and denser than those produced by conventional scrap processing methods. One additional incentive for the use of cryogenic processing is the reduction of pollution problems in many operations.
