Pneumatic rock drill noise can be reduced.
Noise Control Eng 1975 Mar; 4(2):54-63
Noise reductions of more than 15 dba were obtained by modifying several features of a pneumatic rock drill of the type used in mining industries. Features described include a special drill- covering case with integral mufflers, substitute damping alloy components that replaced drill parts, and constrained-layer dampers applied to the steel drill rod. Data on operating noise levels and drill performance obtained in laboratory and field tests show the noise-reduction effectiveness of various modifications and the effects of the modifications on drill performance.
