Bureau of Mines Process for Recovering Resources from Raw Refuse.
Ch 21 in Man and His Phys Environ Burgess Pub Company Minneapolis Minnesota, 3/75 PP 135-143 :135-143
The Bureau of Mines conducted research with an emphasis on developing a process for recovering the greatest possible amount of materials with value from raw, unburned refuse. From the standpoint of mineral engineering considerations, it was concluded that dry air classification offered greater advantages than any other method as the basic processing scheme. Air and water pollution problems would be minimized or eliminated, maximum recovery of materials would be possible, and energy requirements would be minimal. Unusable wastes to be disposed of would be minimal, and recoverable combustibles would be in an ideal form for processing by various schemes if extraction of fuel values were desired.
