Three cast cobalt-base superalloys (mar-m 302, mar-m 509, and x-45) have been successfully electroslag remelted into 8.9-Cm-diam ingots in an inert atmosphere with ac power and caf2-cao-al2o3 and caf2-cao- mgo-al2o3 fluxes. Vacuum-arc remelts were conducted for comparison purposes. Hardness values, phase compositions, nonmetallic inclusions, and chemistry were similar in ingots remelted by both processes.
