Synthesis of methane in hot gas recycle reactor--pilot plant tests.

Development of large-scale catalytic methanation reactors is necessary to complete the commercialization of plants for converting coal to substitute natural gas. The work described in this report attempts to extend the life of the catalyst in the hot gas recycle system, to determine the effects of some of the process variables, and to compare the performance of a bed of pelleted nickel catalyst with that of a bed of parallel plates coated with raney nickel.
