The beneficiation of domestic ferruginous bauxite to obtain a bauxite suitable for refractory use was investigated. Ferruginous bauxites are domestically abundant but they are not adequately utilized owing to their low alumina and excessive iron content. This report describes tests using high-intensity, wet-magnetic separation of flotation concentrates to reduce the iron content. In the tests reported, iron content was significantly reduced; however, more work is required to fully demonstrate the feasibility of the procedure.
