Study of Methods to Improve Pillar Extraction Practices in Underground Coal Mines. Volume II. Haulage Practices in Retreat Mining.

This report deals with an industrial engineering study of face haulage practices in retreat mining of pillars in underground coal mines using the room-and-pillar mining method. A statistical analysis of accident data was performed to determine the extent of the risk of fatal accidents related to face haulage activities. Various types of cyclical and continuous-haulage systems and equipment were evaluated and recommendations for future research and development were made.
