Abstract
Applications of three experimental design techniques to smelting operations are explained. The report describes a factorial design using three variables at two levels, a fractional factorial design which investigates seven variables, and response-surface methodology for optimization of electric-furnace smelting processes. These methods may be applied with a minimum of trials and at little expense. Further, the writer knows of no reasons why the same methods could not be applied to other operations as well, such as steelmaking. (Out of print.)
