Abstract
The compound v-valerolactone has been identified in an acid fraction isolated from waste water collected from an in situ oil-shale retort. Infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectrometry were used by the Bureau of Mines to confirm the identification of a subfraction collected from a gas chromatograph. Work done in cooperation with the University of Wyoming.
