Ergonomics in mining: the Human Factors Program in the Bureau of Mines.

The era of human factors research in the U.S. Bureau of Mines began less than two decades ago. However, in this short period of time, considerable progress has been made. This article defines human factors, indicates some of the past and current research completed or underway, and briefly explains our conceptions of the future in this research area.
