Use of Preheated Coal in Carbonization.

The Bureau of Mines investigated the use of preheated coal in carbonization operations. Liquor yields and coking times were reduced, coke quality was improved, and smokeless pipeline charging to coke ovens should eliminate a serious source of pollution. Work done in cooperation with the National Steel Corp.
