Prediction of Coke Strength of American Coals by the Ruhr Dilatometer Method.

The method for predicting coke strength developed at Steinkohlenbergbauverein, Germany, in which experimental parameters are readily determined by small-scale laboratory tests, was found to be applicable to cokes produced from industrially used blends of American coals. Predicted 1-inch ASTM tumbler indices for four industrial blends were found to be in excellent agreement with the experimentally determined values. The laboratory determined prediction parameters include the proximate analysis of the coal, the size consist of the coal, and Ruhr dilatometer test data.
