Abstract
The last decade has seen a great increase in our knowledge, and the development of new techniques is already having an impact on acid mine drainage (AMD) problems at active and abandoned mines. Mitigation technology that has proved effective on coal mines is now being adapted and tested for applicability to metal-mine drainage. AMD is not a problem that can be answered with a single solution but one that requires a multitude of options. It is hoped that the achievements of the last 10 years are only a prelude to future developments.
