Abstract
The U.S. Bureau of Mines and carnegie mellon University have designed a window-based computer program called the autonomous mining research and development system (amreds). Amreds helps researchers to develop, test, and integrate sensor systems for computer-assisted mining equipment. The program reduces the normal time needed to develop and test a sensor system in a multicomputer network. With amreds, researchers can focus on developing innovative mining machine control systems while avoiding time- consuming computer-interfacing problems. This report presents the uses of amreds in current and future applications and describes the operation of the program.
