Future computer-assisted mining systems will be able to mine several hundred feet in a continuous operation. Because of this emerging mining technology, the U.S. Bureau of Mines is studying novel ventilation designs. Mining technology is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. The Bureau, therefore, anticipates incremental developments in face ventilation technology in the quest of ventilating future mining systems.
