Characterization Study of Domestic Nickeliferous Laterites by Electron Optical and X-ray Techniques.
NTIS: PB 278 858 Available for Reference At Bureau Libraries :63 pages
The report describes the effect of several processing parameters on the extractability of Pine Flat and Eight Dollar Mountain nickel- bearing laterite ores. Raw ores as well as intermediate products were characterized by petrographic procedures, x-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopic analysis, and electron microprobe studies. It was found that the best extractions could be achieved by post-heating the reduced ores with 2 pct pyrite for 40 minutes. Analysis indicated that chalcopyrite is contained in small amounts in the processed ore. The results are interpreted in terms of the avoidance of the formation of refractory silicates and improved formation of metallics.
