Three Potential Longwall Mining Methods for Thick, Coal Seams in the Western United States.

Three longwall mining methods practiced in foreign countries are described that have potential for increasing underground recovery and productivity in thick coalbeds of the western United States. The methods are multislice longwalling, longwall caving, and high- face longwalling. Foreign practices and possible application in the United States are discussed.
