NTIS: PB 240 466 :118 pages
The Duluth Gabbro Complex in northeastern Minnesota possibly contains a significant domestic copper resource and the nation's largest nickel resource. Exploration has discovered large low-grade copper-nickel deposits between Hoyt Lakes and the boundary waters canoe area. An open pit model and two underground models were developed to generate information on the impact of copper-nickel extraction. Aspects identified and defined are exploration, development, mining, beneficiating, smelting, industry, energy, climate, resources, water, air emissions, waste disposal, employees, taxes and royalties, transportation, and community considerations.
