Chlorination of binary alloys (Si-Ge, Mo-Re and Au-Pt).

The chlorination rates of three binary systems were determined. Mo- 46Re and Au-8.5Pt, where the compositions are in approximate weight percent, were studied with respect to temperature and chlorine pressure. Silicon, Si-20Ge, Si-40Ge, Si-60Ge, Si-80Ge, and germanium chlorination rates were determined with only one chlorine pressure but over a range of temperatures. The results as correlated with plausible reaction mechanisms indicate the usefulness of alloy chlorination for studying gas-metal reactions.
