SME Preprint 90-103 1990 :4 pages
Ventilation is currently used in mines to sustain human life, prevent explosions, and provide a more healthful work place. Future automated mining systems could use ventilation techniques quite different from today's practices. The Bureau of Mines is anticipating various methodologies for ventilating the automated mining systems that are beginning to emerge. This paper examines the special ventilation requirements for automated mining systems. Topics include requirements for automated systems, current studies with blowup ventilation tubing, and ventilation of two types of highwall ripper-type mining machines.
